Sonamarg, Jun 13 (KNO): With the rising temperatures and increasing influx of both local and non-local tourists at the popular destination of Sonamarg, the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) has issued an advisory to ensure the safety of visitors and the protection of the environment. According to an advisory, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the SDA said that it has been observed that many visitors, including children are entering the River Sindh—especially in areas from Gagangir to Fish Point—to seek relief from the ongoing heatwave. These water bodies are extremely unsafe for bathing due to their unpredictable currents and hidden dangers, which can lead to fatal drowning incidents, reads the advisory. The Sonamarg Development Authority strongly advised people not to enter or bath in the River Sindh, or any river, stream or waterfall in Sonamarg. Parents and guardians have been appealed to closely monitor children and ensure they stay away from all water bodies. Tourism stakeholders, including ponywalas, guides and service providers are directed to inform and caution tourists about the potential risks. Warning signage has been installed at vulnerable spots, and everyone is expected to strictly follow all safety instructions. Additionally, it has been observed that a large number of visitors and campers are erecting tents close to the riverbanks and improperly disposing of garbage in open areas. Such behaviour endangers the ecological balance and spoils the natural beauty of Sonamarg, the SDA said. “To maintain cleanliness and environmental safety, visitors and campers are advised, Do not erect tents in close proximity to the River Sindh, Avoid disposing of garbage in open surroundings, Collect all waste and dispose of it responsibly in designated dustbins placed across Sonamarg,” it reads. The SDA urged all visitors to act responsibly and cooperate in preserving the sanctity and safety of this breathtaking tourist destination. “Let us all work together to keep Sonamarg clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone,” reads the advisory—(KNO)
